Quanto è grande 1 MB? (edit)

Se vi dicessi che c’è un instant messenger che con 1MB promette 25 minuti di chiamata al giorno, per un mese, più una normale attività di chat? E tutto ciò in 1 solo MB di traffico? Dopo il salto sarà svelato il nome di questa incredibile novità.

Skype. Esatto, proprio Skype. Non è una novità, no, ok. Ma la riflessione sul traffico, proprio quando viene messa in distribuzione la versione mobile, merita o no un approfondimento? La promessa è in questa FAQ:

Tom has 20 Skype contacts and signs in twice a day for a total of 90 minutes. He IMs for about 25 minutes each day and makes 20 minutes of Skype calls. Tom would use just under 1 MB of data in one month

Non ci abbiamo creduto ed abbiamo voluto chiedere ai tecnici Skype se non ci fosse magari un errore, se quella pagina non fosse macchiata da un refuso non notato. Invece i tecnici, pur con qualche precauzione, hanno confermato. Questo il commento giunto grazie all’intermediazione di Enrico Noseda, Direttore Business Development Europe in Skype:

[…] this is a general guide on data usage, but numbers can very depending on a few factors but this is to give a general sense of data as the application uses regular voice calling to make and receive Skype calls, the application requires much less bandwidth (and CPU) for a phone we tested this a few times on sfym, and feel that is a good general guide (under the warning that it can vary)

Esplicitamente: possibile che il tutto consumi 1 solo MB di traffico? Sicuri?

yeah, that was from our testing. especially as S-S calls don’t use any data on the SFYM – they use the voice channel and the data connection is suspended during calls

Insomma, il dato potrebbe magari raddoppiare, la cifra dipende da molti fattori, ma l’ordine di grandezza è quello.
